USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), formerly CVA-63, was a US Navy supercarrier. She was the second naval ship named after Kitty Hawk, NC, the site of the Wright brothers' first powered airplane flight. Kitty Hawk was the first of the three Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carriers to be commissioned and the last to be decommissioned. The keel for the lead ship of this class was laid on 27 December 1956, and was named to honor the location of the first flight made by the Wright brothers. "Kitty" was launched on 21 May 1960 and placed in commission on 29 April 1961. She was home-ported now in Yoosuka, Japan after arriving there on 11 August 1998 upon completion of a 12-month, $65 million overhaul in April 1998. This is the famous "Don't Tread on Me" Patch.

Airwing 15 was originally established December 20, 1963 (redesignated from CVG-15), but was disestablished March 31, 1995. This patch was from their 1993 WESTPAC cruise onboard CV-63 and shows TERMINATOR superimposed over the Persian Gulf area.....no velcro.

This a WESTPAC 1966-67 reproduction cruise patch. It was a special request from a customer. It shows a large sailing vessel over a detailed sunset. It says "USS KITTY HAWK CVA 63" across the bottom. This patch does not have velcro attached.

(From Skipper Hagan Collection): This is the "globe" version of the 2003 Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) cruise patch for Airwing 5 when they cruised onboard the USS Kitty Hawk. It shows the world with their path in red, and says "102 DAYS AT SEA, TWO BEER DAYS, ZERO PORT VISITS". In the "HAGAN" collection we picked up, there were several of these with a "rubber band" around them keeping them together. Apparently this is a tough patch to locate, and does not come with velcro attached..

The 'Black Knights' of VF-154 fly the F-14A Tomcat as part of CVW-5 onboard the USS Kitty Hawk and home-based out of NAF Atsugi, Japan. This is thier cruise patch for the Indian Ocean cruise in 1992 and states "Guardian of the Gulf".
