The VF-1 'Wolfpack' flew the F-14 Tomcat out of NAS Miramar, CA, but have since been decommissioned. They were established in Oct. 1972, and received their Tomcats the following summer. They were the only Grumman squadron to get an Air-to-Air kill during Desert Storm.

This is the color version of the current squadron patch for VF-2. The 'Bounty Hunters' are a Tomcat squadron that is now stationed on the East Coast, but cruise with West Coast boats. They were established in October 1972 and received their first Tomcats in 1973. They are a TARPS squadron and have established many firsts for their carrier and airwing.

The VF-2 'Bounty Hunters' are well known around the world and have accomplished many "interesting" claims, of which are intercepting a SU-15 "Flagon", MiG-23 "Flogger", "Bear" and "Badger" bombers during a 1986 USS Ranger West coast cruise. They also logged the USS Ranger's 260,000th trap. This is the F-14 aircraft triangle patch worn on the right sleeve of their flight suits. It does not come with velcro attached.

The "Tophatters" of VF-14 from NAS Oceana fly the F-14A Tomcat and is the oldest US Navy squadron with a continuous history dating back to September 1919. They received their latest aircraft in January 1973, replacing the F-4B Phantoms. They participated in Grenada and Lebanon on the same cruise in 1982, and also operated combat missions during Desert Storm.

VF-14 most recently participated in the Kosovo crisis as one of two Tomcat squadrons on station in the Adriatic Sea aboard the USS Roosevelt. They returned from their normal cruise rotation on September 21 of this year. The squadron history also had them participating in Desert Storm, but have since resumed their normal Mediterranean cruises.

The original "Jolly Rogers" were from VF-84, but have an interesting squadron history. They were initally designated as VA-86 on 1 July 1955, but were redesignated to VF-84 on the same day! They were the second squadron to bear the VF-84 designation and bore the proud "Skulls and Crossbones" as their markings. They flew the F-4N Phantoms before transitioning to the F-14A Tomcat, but were decommissioned in the early '90s. They were also the squadron used in the Seagal movie, "Executive Decision", flying intercepts off the coast of Key West.

VF-103 was established in May 1952 and began the transition from F-4S Phantoms to the F-14A Tomcat in January 1983. The 'Sluggers' were with the USS Saratoga in CVW-17 for the majority of her time, before switching to the USS Enterprise. VF-103 adopted the "Skull and Crossbones" of VF-84 to continue their tradition. VF-103 had one of their TARPS- birds shot down by an optical SA-2 derivative in Desert Storm with the pilot being rescued and the RIO becoming a POW. This is the 4-inch tall version of their squadron patch and does not come with velcro attached.

The 'Black Knights' of VF-154 flew the F-14A Tomcat as part of CVW-5 onboard the USS Kitty Hawk and home-based out of NAF Atsugi, Japan. The symbol on the patch shows an armored knight at parade rest with shield and sword. This was designed by a LTjg in the squadron in 1957, but then drawn by cartoonist Milton Caniff of "Steve Canyon" fame. This is the gray-bordered/gray-lettered version of their squadron patch and does not come with velcro attached.

This is the "desert-camo'ed" version of the Naval Strike Air Warfare Center's aircraft triangle patch, created just for them. The Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at Naval Air Station Fallon is the center of excellence for naval aviation training and tactics development. NSAWC provides service to aircrews, squadrons and air wings throughout the United States Navy through flight training, academic instructional classes, and direct operational and intelligence support. The command consists of more than 130 officers, 250 enlisted and 500 contract personnel. NSAWC flies and maintains F/A-18 Hornets, F-14 Tomcats and SH-60F Seahawk helicopters.

On March 19, 2003, the Fists began combat sorties in earnest and Operation Southern Watch abruptly turned into Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Fist of the Fleet led the way to Baghdad, participating in first-night air strikes on the Iraqi capitol in what has become known as the Shock and Awe campaign. The squadron put in long days, achieving an average daily combat sortie count of 20, while pounding roads from Basra to An Nasiriya, Al Kut, Najaf, Al Hillah and ultimately Baghdad. The squadron’s more than 850 hours flown on 272 combat sorties over 18 straight days resulted in relentless and deadly strikes on the Iraqi regime’s Medina, Baghdad, and Nebuchadnezzar Armored Divisions, military airfields, facilities and command and control infrastructure. The 4 stars on the patch represent the wars that the "Fists of the Fleet" participated in -- WWII, Vietnam, The Gulf War, and OIF. This patch does not have velcro attached.

Receiving their first A-6E Intruders in April 1970, the squadron had already been using this patch design since 1966. They were transitioned to the F/A-18C Hornet in late 1996 after return from their Med cruise aboard the USS Washington in CVW-17. They are now based at NAS Oceana, VA. Notice the Landing Signal Officer (LSO), with "paddles", on face of skull. The design was changed to a more uniform shape that most Hornet squadrons are now adhering to.

The 'Pukin Dogs' of VF-143 began existance as VF-871, a Reserve squadron activated for the Korean War in July 1950. They flew F-4J Phantoms until 1974 when they transitioned to the F-14A Tomcat, but currently are flying the F/A-18 Hornet. They made their first Tomcat cruise aboard the USS America (CV-66) in April 1976. They transitioned to several carriers, but remained with the same battlegroup/CVW and was paired with VF-142 before their decommissioning. This patch shows the "Black Eyes" of the mascot.

The keel for the ship named for the "Father of America's modern Navy", an eight-term senator from the great State of Mississippi, was laid on 13 March 1991, launched on 13 November 1993, and commissioned on 11 November 1995. The Stennis departed NAS Norfolk in February 1998 on it's inaugural cruise with CVW-7 aboard, subsequently completed a World Cruise, and sailed to her new home-port at San Diego, CA in August 1998. She bid farewell to CVW-7 and welcomed aboard CVW-9.
