USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is a supercarrier of the United States Navy, and the lead ship of her class. One of the largest warships in the world, she was laid down, launched, and commissioned as CVAN-68, "aircraft carrier, attack, nuclear powered", but she was later redesignated as CVN-68, "aircraft carrier, multi-mission, nuclear-powered", on 30 June 1975, as part of a fleet-wide realignment that year. The ship was named for World War II Pacific fleet commander Chester W. Nimitz, USN, (1885–1966), who was the Navy’s third fleet admiral. Nimitz had her homeport at Naval Station Norfolk until 1987, when she was relocated to Naval Station Bremerton in Washington (now part of Naval Base Kitsap). Following her Refueling and Complex Overhaul in 2001, her home port was changed to Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego County, California. The home port of Nimitz was again moved to Naval Station Everett in Washington in 2012. In January 2015, Nimitz changed home port from Everett back to Naval Base Kitsap. With the inactivation of USS Enterprise in 2012 and decommissioning in 2017, Nimitz is now the oldest U.S. aircraft carrier in service. The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) made the "Blue Nose" cruise by going north of the Artic Circle. When one crosses the imaginary line, they become a 'blue nose', symbolizing the frigid temperatures that area is known for. Each person aboard the ship at crossing receives a colorful certificate suitable for framing for their 'love-me' wall. The Navy has 5 such certificates, each for an historic event (i.e., Suez Canal, Shellback, etc.)

This is the "Let The Games Begin, Baby" patch created by the CVN-68/CVW-9 "Team Players" for their 1988 WestPac tour that took place during the Olympics.

This is the cruise patch for CVW-9 while attached onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). This patch was created for their 1988-1989 cruise and states "I.O., I.O., IT'S OFF TO WORK I GO".

This is one of the 1991 WestPac cruise patches created for CVN-68/CVW-9 and says "Death From Above" along the bottom of the patch and shows the Grim Reaper holding a map of the Persian Gulf countries......this patch does not come with velcro already attached.

This was the cruise patch for VF-24 when they were onboard the USS Nimitz in 1991 while part of CVW-9. This has "Bart Simpson" depicted on it with his typical sayings. Hard to find these now.

This is the cruise patch created by CVN-68 and CVW-9 for the "Tail End of the (Desert) Storm" participation that says "IN FOR THE PEACE" and shows an Arabic Genie. This patch does not have velcro attached.

This is the 1993 WestPac/Indian Ocean cruise for Airwing 9. It shows an F-14 Tomcat over Iraq and states "You Fly, You Die", referencing no Iraqi flights below the 32nd Parallel. This patch does not have velcro attached.

Picked a few of these up in a collection! This is one of the 1993 WestPac/Indian Ocean cruise patches created for the USS Nimitz (CVN-68), Airwing 9 (CVW-9), and all the attached squadrons. It shows an EA-6B Prowler over the Middle Eastern countries launching an AGM-88 HARM missile and does not come with velcro attached.

This also is a cruise patch for Airwing 9 when they were onboard the USS Nimitz in 1996. This was a West coast cruise that toured the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as Japan and Australia.

This is the cruise patch for CVW-11 while attached onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). This is their "Only the Eight Ball Knows" patch they made due to the uncertainty of when they would be coming home.

This particular patch was designed by AM1 Larry Parker of VFA-86 "Sidewinders" for the 2009-10 WESTPAC deployment. The pentagon shape pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack on 9-11. The framed shape colors of red, white, and blue denote the color of our flag which we defend on a daily basis. The five stars denote Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz and the Carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) whom our Airwing was embarked aboard. Carrier Airwing Eleven is represented on the patch by each squadron logo (VFA-14, VFA-41, VFA-86, VFA-97, VAQ-135, HS-6, VAQ-117, and VRC-30 Det 3) they are bound together by barbed wire. A symbol derived from the force call sign "Team Barbwire" the unity between Aiwing and Carrier. The slogan "Speed and Violence" and the "Skull and Crossbones" is a testament to the quick reaction and deadly force brought upon our adversaries by the Airwing and Naval Aviation. The slogan "Old Salt" is the nick name for the USS Nimitz. This patch does not come with velcro attached.

This is the 2010 cruise patch created for VFA-97 while attached to CVW-11 onboard CVN-68 (USS Nimitz). It says "OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 2009-2010" across the bottom and does not come with velcro attached.

It shows a "hard-charging" rhino trampling over the middle eastern countries they "visited" busting through an ISIS flag. It has all the squadron logos along the edges as well. It says "WESTPAC/OIR 2017" (top)/ "DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH" (bottom) and shows the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) with a diamond on the flight deck emitting rays with "HOTEL 68" along the side of the boat. This is an AV8RSTUFF creation of one of the cruise patches for VFA-146 for their 2017 Deployment. It has an "A and G" combined in the middle, says "IT'S OURS" on the upper left quadrant and "STAY THE F*CK OUT" in the lower right quadrant. Along the bottom it says "AT TANF GARRISON", but don't have the full "back-story" on this patch (yet). This patch does not have velcro attached.

(Direct from the Squadron) This is the 2013 cruise patch created by the VAW-117 Wallbangers for their WestPac cruise onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). It lists the dates of the cruise at the bottom as APRIL 13 - OCTOBER 13 - DECEMBER 13 and says "THE CVW-11 CRUISATORY". This patch does not have velcro attached.
