Formed from Helicopter Combat Support Squadron SIX (HC-6) Detachment 53, Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron TWELVE (HM-12) was established aboard Naval Air Station Norfolk, Virginia on 1 April 1971. This is one of the "det" patch for HM-14, just picked up from the squadron. It says "Remember, Its Voluntary" across the top and "So Quit Bitchin" along the bottom. This patch does not have velcro.

This is one of the "JOPA" (Jr. Officer Protection Agency) patches from HM-14. It says "60% of the Time" (across the top) "We Work Every Time" (along the bottom). This patch does not have velcro.

(Korean) This is the HM-14 'VANGUARD' patch created for DET-2A for their deployment / operations in South Korea. It depicts their mascot (the horse) with a Korean bandana on it's head. This patch does not have velcro attached. (note: since this came from a small Korean embroidery shop, the pricing is slightly higher due to shipping)

Aircraft 543 was on a routine AMCM (Airborne Mine Countermeasures) training flight off the coast of Virginia on January 8th 2014. The aircraft crashed into the water and another of our squadron aircraft responded as on scene commander, and coordinated the rescue effort. This was the last mishap for the MH-53E community in a string of 4 mishaps that started in the summer of 2012. There were 4 people onboard this flight and only one survived. Thank God there have not been any losses of aircraft or crew since this mishap over 10 years ago. As you are aware HM-14 was decommissioned last summer, and our sister squadron (HM-15) and our training squadron (HM-12) are due to be decommissioned by FY 2027. This patch does not have velcro attached.
