As of 2003, HS-2 was scheduled to be redesignated Helicopter Sea Combat Wing ONE TWO [HSC-12] in April of 2009. This change reflected the switch to the MH-60S Knighthawk and the merger of Helicopter Tactical Wing, Pacific Fleet [HELTACWINGPAC] and Helicopter Anti-Submarine Wing, Pacific Fleet [HSWINGPAC] into Helicopter Sea Combat Wing, Pacific Fleet [HELSEACOMBATWINGPAC]. Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron TWO was established on 7 March 1952 as the first Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) helicopter squadron on the West Coast, flying the HRS-2. Initially used in small detachments, the first deployment as an entire squadron was made in 1957 when the world famous "Golden Falcons," flying the HSS-1, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CVA-47). Today, HS-2 deploys as a member of Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW-2) aboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) with 161 enlisted, 24 officers and six Sikorsky H-60 helicopters. This is the dark blue version of the current squadron patch for the HS-2 "Golden Falcons".

This is one of the 1994-1995 WestPac cruise patches for the USS Constellation (CV-64) and Airwing 2 (CVW-2). This patch is "OCTAGON" shaped and shows the aircraft at the top, the 'Merican Flag in the middle and the Carrier at the bottom, with all the attached squadrons along the border! It does not have velcro attached and is an exact reproduction of the original patch that AV8RSTUFF was asked to make for one of the groups, and was allowed to make a few extra for the site!!

They were the first East Coast squadron to replace their SH-3Hs with the newer Sikorsky SH-60F in a ceremony in August 1991. They participated in Operation Desert Storm aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-60), then transitioned to the T.R. They have since supplemented their aircraft inventory with 2 strike rescue versions of their helicopter, the HH-60Hs. This is the "large" version of their squadron patch with red letters.

The "Red Lions" of HS-15 are based out of NAS Jacksonville, FL and fly the Sikorsky SH-60F and the HH-60H (the strike rescue version). They were established in October 1971 and were part of CVW-6 onboard the USS Forrestal (CV-59) until late 1991. After the "Forest Fire" transitioned to becoming the Navy's training carrier, they switched to the Enterprise, then in 1997, stayed with CVW-17 as they "hopped flight decks" to the GW.

The HS-17 "Neptune's Raiders" were on the USS Coral Sea Med cruise in 87-88, as part of CVW-13 Guardians. The Raider's call sign was "Valkyrie", because the original CO, CDR Mike Charley, liked the helo assault scene from "Apocalypse Now". While in Cannes, France, the raiders held a party attended by COM 6th Fleet, Jane Pauley, and other notables. Ms Pauley was then a guest of the USS Coral Sea, due to filming of one day of the "Today Show" from the deck of the USS Coral Sea. In the summer of1987, HS-17 won the HS (Atlantic) ASW "Rodeo" competition, besting all other non-embarked Atlantic HS squadrons in the annual ASW competition. The 'Neptune's Raiders' of HS-17 were disestablished on 02 July 91.

They are the Naval Air Reserve component of the helicopter community.
