Another “IRISH””” creation: This is the commemorative ‘Challenge Coin’ created for CDR John J. ‘BUG’ Roach’s career. CDR Roach was the Navy’s senior LSO. He “waved” more aircraft than any other LSO in the Navy (over 130,000 landings). Recognizing CDR Roach’s enormous contribution to naval aviation, the Northern California Coastal Navy League established the Commander John “Bug” Roach Paddles Award for LSO excellence.
