CVN 68 2010 ‘Old Salt’ Cruise Patch

This particular patch was designed by AM1 Larry Parker of VFA-86 “Sidewinders” for the 2009-10 WESTPAC deployment. The pentagon shape pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack on 9-11. The framed shape colors of red, white, and blue denote the color of our flag which we defend on a daily basis. The five stars denote Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz and the Carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) whom our Airwing was embarked aboard. Carrier Airwing Eleven is represented on the patch by each squadron logo (VFA-14, VFA-41, VFA-86, VFA-97, VAQ-135, HS-6, VAQ-117, and VRC-30 Det 3) they are bound together by barbed wire. A symbol derived from the force call sign “Team Barbwire” the unity between Aiwing and Carrier. The slogan “Speed and Violence” and the “Skull and Crossbones” is a testament to the quick reaction and deadly force brought upon our adversaries by the Airwing and Naval Aviation. The slogan “Old Salt” is the nick name for the USS Nimitz. This patch does not come with velcro attached.
