(Another AV8RSTUFF Creation): When sailors first discovered Octopus, they had no idea what this creature was. They could only associate it with things they knew, as it was mystifying like a dragon and lumbered through the sea like a whale. Before they were called Octopus for their eight legs, they weÕre known to those at sea as ÒDragon Whales!Ó. Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC) 8 was redesignated, in early 2005 as Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 28 (HSC-28 The ÒDragon Whales!Ó) as part of a merger of the HC and helicopter anti-submarine (HS) communities. The change came as a result of the introduction of the MH-60S ÒKnighthawkÓ, replacing the CH-46D ÒSea KnightÓ, UH-3H Sea King and the SH-60F Seahawk, and the future introduction of the MH-60R Seahawk, which is replacing the SH-60B Seahawk. This patch was created to commemorate a “HALLOWEEN” theme (note the bat-wings) and DOES come with velcro attached.
