This is the Det-2 patch from the HSL-42 guys and it says “Fear the Worm”. The Boone-Doggler patch is from a very successful Counter-Drug Operations deployment from OCT ’02 to April ’03. We took a comic style tequila worm with a sombrero holding a cigar and machine gun overlayed that on the Pacific, Caribbean and South America with deep colors and gold borders. They were deployed on the USS BOONE (FFG-28), transited the Panama Canal 4 times, rescued 150 Ecuadorian migrants adrift at sea, participated in UNITAS ’03 while pulling into ports in 10 different countries.
