The USS Midway was one of the last few wartime carriers that have recently been retired. She was the first carrier home-ported outside the USA by being based at Yokosuka, Japan which allowed the boat to be readily available for rapid deployments in the Pacific. This is the “red bordered” version of their ship patch.
