Located at NAS Oceana, the Roadrunners were one of the nine A-6E Intruder squadrons stationed on the East Coast. This, the 1st of their three squadron patch designs, shows their squadron mascot. The bird’s head patch that listed as the first is simply the mascot patch of the 1987-1994 squadron. This design also appeared on the breast of their T-shirts in this period, with the slogan “Heartless.” “Heartless” was their radio callsign.
