(Another AV8RSTUFF Creation): The “Tophatters” of VFA-14 from NAS Oceana flew the F-14A Tomcat and is the oldest US Navy squadron with a continuous history dating back to September 1919. They transitioned to their latest aircraft, the F/A-18 Hornet in December 2001, replacing the F-14 Tomcat. This is the desert version of the “standard Flag” patch (desert stripes) that was created as a ‘nod’ to their legacy and history. It says “DONT TREAD ON ME” and does not have velcro attached.
