Started as VF-921 Reserve squadron that was called to active duty on 1 Feb 1951, they were redesignated VF-84 on 4 Feb 1953, then redesignated VA-86 on 1 Jul 1955, and now currently designated VFA-86 on 15 Jul 1987. The “Sidewinders” fly the F-18 Hornet out of Beaufort, SC. This is the desert version of their squadron patch. This patch does not come with Velcro.
