Based out of NAS Lemoore, CA flying the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, they were established in March 1952. They participated in Desert Storm in 1991 with CVW-11 and the USS Lincoln (CVN-72). They now fly from the deck of the Carl Vinson (CVN-70). This version of their squadron patch has the “TIDAL WAVE” with the F/A-18C Hornet flying off into the setting Japanese sun and says “FLY NAVY 100 YEARS / 100th *1917-2017*”. Note this version has the “JAPANESE” script at the bottom and does not come with velcro attached.
