This is the white version of the ‘HISTORICAL’ squadron patch for “PATROL SQUADRON (VP)-16”. The first insignia used by the squadron was approved by CNO on 15 October 1951 when it was still VP-741. The design featured a ‘Disney-like’ alligator wearing a sailor’s hat with a spy glass in its left hand and a bomb, poised to throw in its right hand, at a periscope projecting from the water…..great historical information provided by one of VP-16’s instructors. It says “FIGHTING GATORS” across the top and does not have velcro attached.
