CVN-68 1986 Blue Nose Cruise

The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) made the “Blue Nose” cruise by going north of the Artic Circle. When one crosses the imaginary line, they become a ‘blue nose’, symbolizing the frigid temperatures that area is known for. Each person aboard the ship at crossing receives a colorful certificate suitable for framing for their ‘love-me’ wall. The Navy has 5 such certificates, each for an historic event (i.e., Suez Canal, Shellback, etc.)
