Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169), known as the “Vipers,” is a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter squadron based at MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA. Part of MAG-39 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, they operate AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters to provide close air support and assault support for ground forces. They were activated 30 September 1971 as HMA-169, then redesignated HMLA-169, 1 October 1986. They are a very decorated unit, with operations from Desert Shield/Desert Storm to Operation Sea Angel, Bangladesh, May 1991. This patch says “FURY” in red letters at the top with the Maltese Cross in the center under the Viking….this patch does not come with velcro attached.
