The ‘Gunfighters’ of VF-124 were established as VF-53 in August ’48, then redesignated to their current designation in April ’58. They were the West Coast RAG (Training Squadron) that trained the pilots and RIOs for the F-14 Tomcat. They were decommissioned when all the CONUS Tomcat squadrons were moved to the Master Jet Base NAS Oceana. This is there decommissioning patch with the date September 30, 1994 on it and says “Last Time, Baby…!”” across the bottom. This patch does not have velcro attached.
