VMF-311 was the squadron that was established during WW ll and flew the F4U-1C, F-80A, F9F2,and F9F-8 til the end of the Korean war. Afterwards, the squadron changed it’s name to VMA-311 “TOMCATS” and now flies the AV-8B Harrier at MCAS Yuma, AZ. Thanks to Haruki Nakamine for that tidbit.
